Dying to Live Radically

A television program on A&E chronicles the life and struggles of people who chronically keep so many belongings in their house or property that their lives begin to unravel. Christ knows our hearts better than we know ourselves and he begins most of his teachings regarding love and/or possessions with the premise that we are great 'self-lovers.' We are all always in danger of settling for the things and loves of this world and missing on the great fulfilling joy of the person of Christ. Christ knows that following him not only invites some hardships from the world around us but also means that we are available for him to ask anything of us, that we are willing to follow and give up anything that stands in the way of completing the journey with God that we have begun. We must entertain the possibility that Christ has called us to something higher than church life as we know it. We must believe that Christ is so good, so satisfying, so worthy that we will leave everyone and everything to find fulfillment in him.
