What does it look like to be an ordinary anything? Very few of us like the idea of being ordinary. There’s an inner restlessness that argues against it. There’s the ever-present economy around us that pushes us to strive for more and to be a participant in the “next big thing.” There’s even an aspect to Christianity and religion that directs us toward mountain-top experiences and away from the daily grind of living out Christianity wherever God has planted us. We must recapture the thrill of the daily and ordinary. We must reconnect with the idea that God has put us here for this day in this place. And we must reapply our efforts toward taking the Gospel in ordinary, daily ways for the eternal sake of the ONE that God has placed in our lives. We can run away and be angry like Jonah, or we can seek God’s heart for the ONE who needs the good Gospel that we have!
